Macrobert In: Your Community

12th July 2017

Macrobert In Landscape Image

MACROBERT IN is a taste of the entertainment and activities we offer at Macrobert Arts Centre, right in your local community. Enjoy a film screening, art and drama workshops or pop-in for a coffee and a chat with our team. Suitable for all generations, drop by and join us for a free day of fun for all the family.

On July 15 1987, British Coal announced the closure of Polmaise Colliery, at the village of Fallin, near Stirling. Two days later, the pit gates closed for good and 112 workers joined the dole queue - in an area which already had 36% unemployment and where 64% of families claimed housing benefit.

Thirty years after the bad news came to Polmaise, bringing an end to deep coal mining in Stirling and Clackmannanshire, and the turbulent end of the Miner’s Strike in both villages, Macrobert Arts Centre are presenting a series of events at the Arts Centre and in two local communities. This is part of our ‘Get More’ programme which encourages audiences to connect through performances, participation events and conversations that arise from the exploration of the upcoming show Coal (Thu 28 - Sat 30 Sep) - a powerful show which takes a nostalgic look at the hard hitting realities of life at the coal face.
