22nd January 2018
Young people will be able to develop drama and communication skills, build confidence and explore their creativity through an exciting new drama club soon to launch in the Hillfoots. ‘Friday Night Drama’ has been developed by a group of young people supported by a new social enterprise – OYCI - Ochil Youths Community Improvement – CIC. The club is a partnership between OYCI, the Macrobert Arts Centre and Alva Academy.
The club will run on Friday evenings as a great wind down to the weekend. Professional drama artists from Macrobert and teachers from Alva Academy will work with groups from S1 – S6, helping young people to develop skills and confidence, make new connections and learn new techniques. A highlight of the club will be an annual Community Performance likely to take place in the autumn.
Participation in drama is known to have many benefits for young people particularly in terms of communication, confidence and self-esteem. Helping to run the club and put on the show will give local young people fantastic opportunities to learn a range of skills across technical production, enterprise, set and costume design, project management and much more.
The timing for the drama club could not be better as 2018 is Scotland’s Year of Young People which aims to showcase young peoples talents and abilities and change perceptions of young people.
