SUNFLOWER LANYARD SCHEME - For When You Need a Little More Assistance, Help or Time

Not all disabilities are visible – some are not immediately obvious, such as autism, chronic pain, dementia, anxiety, visual or hearing impairment. Living with a hidden disability can make daily life more demanding for many people, but it can be difficult for others to recognise, acknowledge or understand the challenges you face.Wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower discreetly indicates to people around you (including Macrobert Staff) that you need additional support, help or a little more time.

How can wearing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower benefit you?
• People around you, including Macrobert Staff, may offer you more help
• You or you carer can use your Hidden Disabilities Sunflower to tell people about the additional help you need

Pick up a Sunflower Lanyard at our Box Office or ask a member of Staff.

ACCESSIBLE EVENTS & SCREENINGS

Audio Described Live Shows & Film Screenings
Certain live shows and film screenings will be clearly marked as audio described in our live and cinema guides, and in the What's On section. Phonic Ear stereo headsets are available from the Box Office to allow customers to hear both the dialogue, and any film soundtrack or any onstage action going on. These headsets can be used in any seat in the Filmhouse and for our live shows, Box Office will help guide you to select the best seat available.

Relaxed Events
These events are open to everyone, but are designed to welcome people who benefit from a more relaxed environment - those with an Autistic Spectrum condition, sensory and communication disorders and people living with dementia. You can expect:
- A relaxed attitude to noise and movement
- Friendly staff on hand to make your visit easy and enjoyable
- The lights to be on low and volume turned down
- No adverts or trailers if it is a film screening

Captioned Performances

In captioning performances, the words appear on a screen at the same time as they are sung or spoken. Captions also include sound effects and offstage noises.

British Sign Language Interpreted Performances
For British Sign Language users, we have a BSL Interpreted performance for selected shows throughout the season. When booking you can let Box Office know and we will find the best available seats for you to see the professional interpreter. The interpreter will not distract from the view of the show.

FAMILIARISATION VISITS / TOUCH TOURS

We appreciate that visiting a new place can be a challenging experience for some people. If you have booked tickets to one of our events and one of your party would benefit from a pre-event tour or touch tour (if offered as part of the show), then please get in touch – 01786 466 666. We’ll do our best to help make Macrobert Arts Centre a comfortable place to be and with regard to touch tours, audience members can sometimes benefit from the enjoyment of a sensory experience of sound and lighting effects, together with a chance to handle both props and costumes beforehand. We also have a familiarisation video for anyone visiting our venue for the first time.

ASSISTING DOGS

We welcome assisting dogs, but please let us know if you are planning to bring yours  to one of our performances - 01786 466 666 or email us.

WE'RE FAMILY FRIENDLY

We welcome children and families and are fully accessible for prams and pushchairs. There is a pram parking bay just as you enter the building beside the Box Office and booster cushions are available on request for the Filmhouse.  We have baby changing facilities in both the men’s and women’s toilets in the main foyer and a baby care room in the Arthouse which includes a wheelchair accessible toilet, changing area and private area for feeding. Mothers are welcome to breastfeed anywhere at Macrobert Arts Centre.

Babes in Arms: A limited number of free tickets for children aged 12 months and under (who are sharing a seat with their carer) are available for some family friendly events (contact Box Office for more info and to book).

Baby Friendly Screenings: We have dedicated Baby Friendly Screenings every month. These screenings are open to everyone, but are designed to welcome parents / guardians and their baby (aged 12 months and under*). You can expect:
- A relaxed attitude to noise and movement
- Mats in front of the screen for parents/guardians and babies to relax on
- Friendly staff on hand to make your visit easy & enjoyable
- The lights to be on low and volume turned down
For useful info about your visit and to share any thoughts and ideas, join our Macrobert Baby Friendly Cinema Facebook group.
