Dance for Parkinson’s Scotland began as a joint initiative managed by Dance Base, Scotland's National Centre for Dance and Scottish Ballet, Scotland's National Dance Company, and delivered in partnership with Parkinson's UK. In 2019, Macrobert joined this national partnership, delivering weekly sessions specifically designed for those living with Parkinson’s to experience the benefit of dance and creativity, but also specifically address concerns for those living with Parkinson’s such as helping to improve posture, balance, and coordination while increasing core strength and flexibility.
What can I expect?
Dance for Parkinson’s Forth Valley weekly classes take in Cochrane Hall, Alva and are suitable for those with no dance experience.
Classes include a variety of seated and standing movements – with a variety of adaptations available for participants to choose which suits them best.
Each class is led by a team of specially trained Dance Artists, Volunteers and are accompanied by live music.
Friends, partners, family members or carers are welcome to join in too – Dance for Parkinson’s is not a spectator sport!
Each session includes social time with refreshments (and usually some delicious home baking!), to chat with others with a similar lived experience of Parkinson’s, build friendships and a community of support. At their heart, Dance for Parkinson’s sessions promote self-confidence, freedom and joy.
