A Bench on the Road follows six women living through the massive Italian migration that took place between 1850 and 1950. Using prose, poetry and music from Scottish and Italian traditions, this new show brings the experiences of both nationalities to life. While the stories of the women are divided, they are united in a battle for both identity and belonging.
Based on hundreds of interviews collected over thirty years, the play is deeply relevant to current debates around immigration and explores themes of acceptance and rejection, confrontation and collaboration.
A fantastic story this Autumn of courage, sisterhood and pride.
