During a long, hot summer in seventies London, young neighbours Holly (Michelle Williams) and Marina (Anna Friel) make a childhood pact to be friends forever. For Marina, troubled, fiercely independent, determined to try everything, Holly stays the only constant in a life of divorcing parents, experimental drugs and fashionable self-destruction. But for Holly, a friendship that has never been equal gradually starts to feel like a trap.

Join us for a post-screening discussion with Jessica Lindohf:
Jessica is the Manager of Stirling Women's Aid and will lead a discussion about challenges and issues facing women across the generations, and introduce the support services provided by Stirling Women's Aid.

Programmed by Stirling Women's Aid:
'This choice was inspired by conversations about complex but positive female friendships. Women are often criticised for being “overly-emotional” yet called upon to be the emotional labourers in their relationships. Historically speaking women are viewed as the emotional gender, rendering their reactions and opinions “irrational”, and men are expected to be stoic, removing any healthy outlet for their feelings, this film is a reminder to talk to and lean on others around you - and not just in times of crisis.'

Other films programmed by Stirling Women's Aid: The Company of Wolves, MaeveDream Girls & Shinjuku Boys (Kim Longinotto Double Bill)
