Macrobert Arts Centre presents
Wallace: A Voncert Version
A rehearsed reading of the story of William Wallace - one of masculinity, independence, and a national hero rising from the Scottish Wars of Independence.
This dramatic new musical will come to Macrobert in 2024 exploring notions of patriotism, belonging and identity by drawing on Scotland’s recent, distant, and current conversation of independence from England. It raises the questions of what is it to be a ‘man’ in Scotland, then and today? Did William Wallace exist? And does it matter if he didn’t?
Book by Rob Drummond with Music and Lyrics by Dave Hook, Wallace tells the story of brave heart William from many perspectives, interweaving alternative rap, argument, conflict, politics and tales of battle.
