Handmade: Macrobert Arts Centre Christmas Exhibition & Crafts Sale

Our annual Christmas sale of arts and crafts is back for a third year!  We host both professional and amateur exhibitions in our Gallery space, the Arthouse, all year round. Over the festive periods 2015 & 2016 we hosted a sale of affordable Artworks and Crafts throughout our busy panto season, offering our audiences opportunities to purchase original Christmas gifts.

This year we will be adding a Craft Sale event to launch the exhibition. It will run on Sat 25 Nov, 12pm – 7.30pm and Sun 26 Nov, 12pm - 6pm.

The Christmas Exhibition runs from Mon 20 Nov to Sun 7 Jan.  Open 10.00am - 9.00pm [with the exception of public holidays].

Christmas is a busy time at Macrobert Arts Centre and we have significant footfall (circa 80,000) for our two Christmas shows and film programme. Expected audience for the opening weekend is circa 2,500.

Who Can Apply?

We’d like to receive submissions from independent practitioners with original, high quality work to sell. Previous high sellers include: framed ceramics, framed prints, cards, decorations and mugs. We would like to introduce a range of jewellery this year. You must be available to install for the exhibition and for the Craft Sale weekend.

*The deadline for submissions is 12noon on Fri 6 Oct 2017.

Terms and Conditions

We require applicants to:

[1] be available to install between 6 and 10 pieces for display on our gallery wall space at an agreed time between 16-19 Nov 2017

[2] provide a minimum of 10 stock pieces to be held by Macrobert Arts Centre for exhibition replenishment [as pieces sell, we anticipate that they’ll be taken away]

[3] provide an itemised stock list at install for all works to be sold by Macrobert Arts Centre

[4] be present to sell additional stock from tables at an opening event Sat 25 Nov 12pm-7.30pm and Sun 26 Nov 12pm-6pm [the space will be accessed by the public on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, tables can be left set up but stock should be secured. Macrobert Arts Centre will not accept liability for damage or loss to stock left unattended on tables during this period].  Set up is from 10.30am both days.

Application Information

Macrobert Arts Centre Marketing Team will carry out marketing and promotional activity to support and build the success of the exhibition, including a range of digital communications and inclusion in Christmas @ Macrobert press activity. We will use the information and images you provide and any links to your own websites/social media. Successful artists and makers are encouraged to publicise the exhibition and craft sale in their own networks.

Exhibition: The exhibition dates are Mon 20 Nov 2017 – Sun 7 Jan 2018. The exhibition will be open daily from 10.00am to 9.00pm [with the exception of some public holidays].

Artwork does not need to have a seasonal or Christmas theme

Successful artists are required to work with the Macrobert Arts Centre team to ensure that pricing of pieces is managed efficiently and effectively. Artwork should be priced to sell, we suggest a ceiling of £100.00

Payment for exhibition artwork will be processed by Macrobert Arts Centre Box Office. Macrobert will retain a 20% commission rate on all sales. The Macrobert team will also wrap artworks.

There will be no charge to exhibit but successful artists are expected to work together to hang their work. A Macrobert Arts Centre technician will be on hand to assist during the hanging of your exhibition. Unless otherwise agreed you should supply any tools and hanging materials. Macrobert Arts Centre will determine which space within the Arthouse is allocated to which artist.

The space is unsupervised and we do have children using the venue on a regular basis who often explore and play unsupervised in the Arthouse. We ask that you consider the health and safety implications of anything within reach of small children, as well as the possibility of your work being handled by them.

The Arthouse is a through space used to access the Playhouse and Mainhouse which means any free standing pieces need to be agreed in consultation with the Venue & Projects Manager and Technical & Production Manager.

Macrobert Arts Centre cannot accept any liability for damage caused to artworks on display.
