We invite young people in P7 - S2 to see live shows at Macrobert and have a go at writing reviews! If you would like to become a Young Critic, contact us below.
You can also take a look at an example of one of our Young Critic's reviews for Up, a show that was featured in our Autumn 24 season.
Contact Us'Up' is about the events that lead up to two people meeting each other on an aeroplane, using toys and audience interaction to tell a story of two people on the opposite spectrum of love, life and luck. And, how being lucky can make you the unluckiest person in the world.
What I liked most about the performance was how they kept switching back and forth between past and present without it being confusing. I also really enjoyed the comedy aspects and found it really funny, especially the bits where the actors would use dolls to tell parts of the story. They made very good use of their little space and their movements painted a very clear picture. I thought that the actions of the plane crashing were very good. I also liked the actions they would do with the luggage every time the story came back to the present. That piece of movement was my favourite piece of choreography in the whole production. The backing music set the scene perfectly, and the characters weren’t just two dimensional. Seeing their stories made you feel for them deeply.
There’s honestly nothing I didn’t like about the show, the show pulled off everything. And even though the story didn’t have a conclusion - the ending was satisfying because of the amazing storytelling that built up to it and it all just ended up making sense in the end.
I would recommend this show for all ages if you want to see something straight out of a romantic movie (in parts), if you like all things funny and want to watch something that changes your perspective on life itself, and takes you out of the world for some time.
